developments.
Mikel signed for Chelsea in 2006 and has been a key figure in domestic and European triumphs for the Blues. However,
it has been recently suggested that the Nigerian could be on his way out of the west London side. With the signing of youngster Marco van Ginkel and the return of Michael Essien from his loan spell at Real Madrid, you have to question where Mikel fits in.
In previous years he has been the anchor in the Chelsea midfield, stopping opposing attacks and protecting the back four. But with this free-flowing attacking football system that Chelsea have implemented, he could be the man to make way.He may do the job defensively but Mikel offers very little in an offensive sense.
He could be eyed as a worthy sacrifice as the likes of Van Ginkel and Ramires can contribute to all areas on the field. With the figures that are being thrown around within the media, a potential transfer fee of £16million would be exceedingly tempting for Mourinho to sell Mikel.
We'll have to wait and see whether the Nigerian will still be a Chelsea player come September.
